A Simple and Affordable Acne Routine

KISS.

Keep
It
Simple
Stupid

People have been telling me this for years, first in Journalism school and then whenever I'd complain about a break out and then bust out 15 different masks to try and solve the problem. The product junkie in me keeps believing there is something out there that will magically, overnight, clear my acne. I still haven't found that product yet, but while I keep trying let me update you on the last week of my life.

I started a new job. It's been non-stop house work inside and out. I have a SORE back, like REALLY SORE. My 3-hour commute is killing me. I can't seem to sleep well anymore. And, my dog seems depressed lately (probably because he has never been left alone so much!) So yeah, I am a little flustered lately. I know it is going to calm down soon, we just need to get into the new "swing of things". But in the meantime my skin is doing a horrible job of showing just how out of whack my life is.

It looks dull, I am breaking out like crazy along my cheeks and chin, my eyes are permanently blood shot and NO makeup will do the trick. I definitely look like I could use a nap (or two) and maybe some ice packs on these bags under my eyes.

Normally, I'd kick into high gear and start using every product under the sun labeled "clearing", "calming", "acne-fighting"... but this time I am taking the KISS approach. I am hoping it works. It is basically just cleanse and moisturize.

Here's my current routine...

To cleanse, I am using my Beautycounter Nourishing Cream Cleanser mixed with 5-6 drops of Organika Tea Tree Oil. I massage it into my face for about a minute and then rinse with warm water. The Tea Tree Oil is antibacterial and will help to dry up existing pimples while preventing any more from forming. I love the Nourishing Cream Cleanser because it is excellent at removing makeup while never stripping my face of its natural oils. Something that can be very hard to avoid while treating acne!

After cleansing and patting my face dry, I gently massage Ren Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream (I use this Day and Night) into my face to calm redness and reduce puffiness. This cream is amazing for ALL skin types and is perfect for sensitive skin. And then I use a jade roller to massage the cream into my pores. The cold sensation of the jade roller is so nice after a long day of wearing makeup. Jade rollers are great for reducing puffiness, redness and massaging out any lactic acid build up. They also minimize the look of fine lines - bonus!

To finish, I treat any acne spots with the doTerra Correct-X Ointment, which has replaced Polysporin in my First Aid Kit. I used to use Polysporin on my pimples as it helps to heal broken skin and prevent infection. But since I discovered doTerra's essential oil version I have been using it as an acne spot treatment!

Follow along on my Instagram over the next few weeks to see how my KISS regime is going. And as always, comment below and let me know what you think of these products, or if you have other clean products that work wonders on acne!
